They are a bit shit but the problem is her character: she's constantly putting herself in mortal danger while criticizing Peter for trying to protect her from harm.
The worst part is when she's chased by bodyguards in Osbourne's flat, and jumps from the building while Peter is asking her to not do that because he is too far away to save her (but of course he still does).
And that's where it hits me: MJ is in fact brilliantly written as a compulsive thrill seeker. She seeks the high of extreme risks and immediately verbally attacks people that advise her to avoid risks or try to protect her. It is totally consistent with everything that she does in game.
