what went so horribly wrong?
they had millions of players as a head start and still managed to turn the franchise into a laughing stock

moba style fail addiction matchmaking
what does that mean
>Lootbox controversy
here's the most egregious one though, the Overwatch League. OW went from fun semi/casual to a hyper-focus on competitive and e-sports thanks to various matchmaking adjustments (characters are locked to 1 person upon selection), Blizzard's constant balance changes and the inability to design a character in a way that complements the rest of the game, so the rest of the game ends up focusing around the newly released character. This has been true for Ana, Doomfist, and Brigette (I stopped playing before Hammond and Smegma were included) with Sombra unfortunately being the worst because the monkeys at Blizz couldn't decide what they wanted to do with her, and she was my fave hero with the coolest kit but horrendous damage. It's also an ability shooter so the
"press Q to Awesome!" ultimates sucked cause half the time they weren't balanced and were an automatic win in a fight Mercy, Ana (pre-speed boost nerf) or straight up dogshit McCree, Pharah .
Ultimately, a dev team of monkeys led by a shitty, greedy corporation so out of touch with their community that they had DJ Fucking Khaled perform at the OWL
Same retarded Blizzard-style balancing that WoWfags have been complaining about since the dawn of time, also forced e-sports in a party game
In my opinion it would mainly be
> power creep in character design
We went from healers that had to sacrifice damage to heal and tanks that had to sacrifice damage and/or range to tanks and healers that can do both
>chasing the esport scene
Who cares about the top 1% of players?
And related to that
>going from 6v6 to 5v5
Some asshole saw other games were 5v5 and told them to make it like that and caused this 20 year drought
needs more BOOM, BAANG! you know what im saying?
How come corporations STILL have not learnt that pandering to e-sport is not profitable and it's a bad thing? Considering how many failures they have done now shouldn't they realize that making a fun game should be the priority and that's what made Overwatch fun before they went full e-sport faggotry?
Blizzard made millions for every city contract in OWL.
blizzard is the only one that is so completely obsessed with esports, probably out of butthurt for fumbling the bag with dota
