Did Nier Automata become such a hit in the mainstream solely because of 2B?
It can't only be that, because then Drakengard 3 should have also become a hit because of the sexy protagonist, but that game didn't do so well

>Did Nier Automata become such a hit in the mainstream solely because of 2B?
No. Any game sold by a pretty face and sex appeal has always faded to obscurity soon after.
Nier Automata has three big things going on:
1. It's a sequel to a very popular cult-hit series, that's been popular especially in Japan since the mid-00s.
2. It's a Platinum game.
3. It's a damn good game with great gameplay, story, visuals, OST, and general atmosphere.
It honestly feels like a long-lost PS2 era mega classic, similar to Ico / SotC, with a plot more akin to something like SH and MGS, with a hefty slice of GitS in the mix.
Also regarding DoD3, that game had many issues that kept it from breaking through:
>Released on PS3 just when PS4 had come out (and ofc Piss4 has no backwards compatibility)
>Runs like shit on PS3, with drops to literal 1-digit values during the most hectic parts
>a lot of good story content locked behind DLC pay wall
Obviously the gameplay and general style weren't exactly "mainstream safe" either. That being said, once emulated on a good PC at higher res and stable 60fps with the hacks, DoD3 becomes a lot more enjoyable game.
do you need a beefier rig to emulate dod3? Never bothered with emulation so I'm not sure how much power I need
certainly not because of the gameplay
Zero was a slut, 2B is a pure wife.
And this is why they need to port DoD3.
>Nier Automata has three big things going on:

No. DrakkeNier fandom was a very recluded fandom, and wasnt as big as you may think
>2. It's a Platinum game.
this is kinda true
>3. It's a damn good game with great gameplay,
No, it's super generic and simple as fuck and this is coming from someone who likes Gestalt's wonky as fuck gameplay
story, visuals, OST and general athmosphere
This here is the real reason the Game became popular, peoe got attracted to the game via 2E's design but latched to it due the story and plot twist, this of course only applied to the casul playerbase that never touched Gestalt or even knew who the fuck Taro was, for everyone else the second you decipher it was a sequel the plot twist became moot, and you find that as soon as you hit the desert during route A or on Route B by reading the files you unlock with Nines
No. It was because of A2. God, I loved her. Game was shit btw
Nier automata had two big things
2b left asscheek and right asscheek
lmao
You need a good CPU for PS3 emulation.
Any i7 or Ryzen 7 from past 5 should do just fine.
>DrakkeNier fandom was a very recluded fandom, and wasnt as big as you may think
Big enough to spawn 3 sequels + manga adaptations and one of the most successful spinoff saga in history.
Again, I'm not trying to claim that DrakeNier would've been a smash success before Nier, but they were not some super niche underground titles either. Especially in Japan.
>No, it's super generic
Generic by what standards? And which decade exactly?
Not to mention when did "generic" start equaling "bad"? We got a billion FPS games using the same WASD+M control scheme, and it never gets criticized.
>and simple as fuck
This is an outright lie.
NieR games mix and match numerous different playstyles and outright genres, with especially Automata providing a total festival of gaming in a single package. I know you are probably referring only to the on-ground combat, but even that has much more depth and fun than the average contemporaries out there. That are really not as common any more.
>this of course only applied to the casul playerbase that never touched Gestalt or even knew who the fuck Taro was
>for everyone else the second you decipher it was a sequel the plot twist became moot
Now you are kinda contradicting your own previous statements and making the OG Nier / Taro be a much bigger phenomena.
But yes, there indeed was a DrakeNier fanbase long before Automata came to be, and those passionate fans were scratching their heads about the story and setting before they got to play it themselves.
That being said, for a "casual player" who started with Automata, those notes and general remains of long lost culture mean very little and may come off as mere lore building. The fact that there are games tied to it all is just a huge plus.
I'll give you two a (You) for free.
well fuck, I have a ryzen 5 2600, guess I'll just hope for a remaster then
D3 is a shit game that ran like garbage. Also a part of a niche series with a history of bad games.
Why does this game have Poland's colour palette?
>great gameplay, visuals
Huh?
Nah.
It also had 9S
postapocalyptic wasteland
Even early Fallouts had more colours.
D3 is awful but one of the only reasons I played it was because of Zero.
>take a picture on a cloudy winter evening
>LOOK IT'S ALL GREY
If you think 2B's appeal was the wet jiggly ass you're a fucking retard.
It was the shapely thighhigh-boot clad legs.
