So many channels do this because it’s easy to just put on in the background while you zoom zoom on your phone or play a game or whatever, it gets good views for minimal work, you don’t actually have to engage critically with the work beyond a surface level, and the algorithm promotes it

It's a ton of work. These videos are all scripted and heavily edited. And uploading once every several months isn't great for the algorithm.
