I like it, it makes every pickup useful and adds some strategy plus RPGs used to have tons of random garbage items and now there's a reason to pick them up sometimes

don’t make me find 10 horse anus pieces that do nothing on their own, let me just find find the whole anus. you can also hide full items at the end of dungeons or as a secret and it feels like a good reward. you put a crafting piece at the end of a level it feels like a waste of time. no sense of discover just more pieces

A game with a crafting system should come with a salvage system. If you made 100 small bombs, then you find a recipe for TNTs but you're out of gunpowder, it's going to feel bad.
Which is why people hoard--why use this crafting material when I may need it later for a better item down the road?
With a salvage system you can at least scrap the leftover small bombs you have and recoup some of the gunpowder

It doesn't make pickups useful. It just makes MORE fucking junk since now you need to pick up multiple intermediate items before you can "craft" the actual useful item.
I'd rather a convenient box of bullets in a Silent Hill gradeschool than have to find gunpowder, brass and lead to make my own bullets.
"Crafting" is intentional busywork to make an empty world feel more full, minimal work for the devs, a lot more tedium for the player.
