The hi-res textures look like shit though.
I remember using a mod that adds parallax mapping to the original chunky textures, and it was pretty great. Speculars were only very slight, not overdone and ugly like here or in Amid Evil, and the parallax gave the walls and floors a nice, subtle depth.

This. All I want is true mouse look and turning the 2D spites into 3D voxel models is good enough. Enhancements that improve upon technical limitations without sacrificing the feel of the original intent.

You'd have to add 3D weapon sway to make it worthwhile.

I'd take blood and hexen, shadow warrior and Duke are ok I guess. Duke is corny and shadow warrior is just meh
