nintendo's handhelds have always done well so if they stick with the hybrid design they should be fine. the switch is basically nintendo giving up on consoles, i would be shocked if they went back to a traditional console with a standalone portable ever again.

Not really. All people care about with Nintendo consoles are the games. As long as they have Odyssey 2 and Mario Kart 9 in the first year it will sell. Then Smash the second year and Animal Crossing the third.
