I didn't play the original, was it a genuinely good game or a Pac themed Scrimblo? The original looks more soulful so it already has that going against it.

Just beat the first level, pacman has Klonoas flutter ability which is cool. Intro cutscenes do a better job at story telling than the original but lacks the soul the original had. So far Im having fun

I got an early copy and 100%'d it and did a non-100% run.
The original is a genuinely great game. Re-Pac is mostly better gameplay-wise and is a lot of fucking fun. The controls are closer to World 2, which is good because that game has great controls. It's really fun to do risky skips.
The presentation is good, though a bit inconsistent and the original definitely had a better and more clear art direction.
Overall I'd highly recommend.
Though if you get it on Switch, be sure to switch to performance mode in the options. In resolution mode it chugs under 30fps while in performance mode it's a consistent 60fps and still looks good.
