Basil came up with a plan to stop Sunny from getting into any trouble after he accidentally killed his big sister, and his plan was to fake her suicide by hanging her from a tree. He did this because Sunny is his best friend, he sees Sunny as the baby of their friend group who needs to be protected at all costs, and because he has horrible abandonment issues after his parents left him to be raised by his grandmother. All of that culminated in him having a mental breakdown after thinking that Sunny would be sent to jail over an accident, causing him to come up with that plan.
