It’s because they always referred to deep fried as a collective group, so pronouns would only be used to describe the group. Plus in other translations shiver’s name uses feminine words

it was her design, I double checked the English direct (and twitter) afterwards and if you don't count Big Man's name, none of them are explicitly gendered. I can't read moon runes, but I do know that not being explicitly gendered in Japanese is also not even that unusual and she was apparently using a feminine speech pattern anyways. Saying it wasn't her design is completely disingenuous. If it wasn't her design people would be saying the same thing about Frye.
