When does a game become retro?

When does a game become retro?

maybe a specific age cutoff? Im not sure myself.
Here is a question, which final fantasy game is considered retro (if any) and which isnt. Im playing FF12 on a PS2 emulator right now and honestly it does not look like it came out 16 years ago

They should just continually add names for eras instead of considering everything a certain number of years old to be retro.
Retro, modern, post-modern

Maybe when there’s a technological difference in graphics, game design, game controls, or game mechanics from one generation to another?

When the modern medium has a massive shift. Retro is a style, not an age.

/y2k/ is still gonna happen

>gta 5 now is as old as gta vice city was when gta 5 came out

When a game is old but calling it retro doesn't make me feel old.

retarded as fuck.

Fucking this

In 60 years are we going to lump Blade Runner 2049 alongside Gone with the Wind in terms of being considered "classics"?

People already lump in books from the 1900s with 1800s, 1700s etc

>alongside Gone with the Wind
You're already doing it yourself by lumping a 1939 release into the literal "classic" era. It's the Hollywood equivalent of the PS2's release.

You will NEVER be a retro videogame

When you can find it on cdromance

Two console generations.

never. retro is the name of an epoch, when will you retards understand?

>i its an EPOCH!
Imagine being this pretentious.

seems to be 15 years. So gamecube and ps2 100% retro now. Wii DS ps3 will SOON be retro in 2-3 years

>using basic english words is pretentious now
guess europoors are waking up

I cannot help but chuckle to this.

There is a clear distinction in style, like Bethoven to Mozart, both "classical" but we all know the difference night and day.
Maybe better comparison is bach cause I hate harsicord

the distinction in style is what dkc is to mario bros

yeah but NES is now vintage, deal with it. ps2 and ps1 is the real retro

true. games do get a little more fuzzy like that

>deal with my definition that nobody else shares
lmao
