The PS2 has two great games on both ends of the spectrum, if you want clunky mechs so hard to control that simply moving it is a fight on itself yet it leads to some fucking amazing and hilarious moments, then go for Robot Alchemic Drive, if you want to pilot something fast and precise where you're zipping around everywhere then go for Zone of Enders 2nd Runner. In the middle of that there's Armored Core

The SD gundam games aren't bad at all but it might not be as cool if you don't know that many of the series.
The gameplay of M.A.S.S. Builder is iffy but you can do some cool customizing.

It's considered the pleb entry of the series but Armored Core: For Answer will always be my response to fun /m/ games.If you're looking for realistic mech stuff you will probably hate it but mechs moving at sanic speeds is something I love. Also has multiple endings and one of the endings has to have one of the highest civilian kill counts you can achieve in vidya.
