Revisionist History In Gaming

Okay hear me out this isn't an anti-Nintendo thread. I saw this posted in a Rare thread earlier and feel it is worthy of discussion. That thread is here Are people with nostalgia for everything Nintendo giving the internet false impressions on gaming? Revisionist history so to speak?

sales doesn't take into account the sheer volume of people who rented Banjo Kazooie, why are you posting a retard from twitter

Sales aren't the only factor that make a product iconic, Avatar is one of the most successful movies of all time yet it's barely ever brought up nowadays.

Okay but you can also say tons of people rented Croc. So why do you ignore that? I am just asking questions here that is all.

Sales literally only matter if your a author or a musician. Any other context is irrelevant

Sort of? It's just that there are so many Nintendo focused channels so they're mostly going to talk about Nintendo shit and then it spreads from there.

Jesus christ user, Croc was shit, that's why no one gives a fuck. It was a game you played and had no fond memories of outside of nice colors. It's not even comparable to Banjo. My earliest memory of frustration with games at all is specifically Croc

3 million is still more than shit like awakening.
Dunno why the fuck they're shitting on that number for an N64 title.

both the n64 and the gamecube had terrible third party support, so people who had those consoles all played the same shit

two people with playstations could have entirely different libraries because they actually had choice of good games

It's almost like sales aren't what makes something memorable

Croc was a terrible game. Banjo Kazooie was an amazing one.

Trannies like in OP's pic get the rope.

The N64 sold less then 10% the sales of the PS1, which had over 7000 games. Of course people who old had an N64 will be more exposed to its games as a general measure.

3 million units for 32.93 million nintendo 64 units
3 million units for 102.49 million playstation units
oh look! I solved it

the difference is that croc had 1 shitty sequel and died. banjo kept getting sequels and re-releases and was trialed as a cartoon mascot for the xbox as well as appearing in multiple cross over games like diddy kong racing, smash bros, etc. croc.... is croc.

croc was also released on the playstation instead of the n64. the n64 was bigger with younger kids who liked cartoonish characters.

cant just go by number of copies of a game sold.

>which had over 7000 games
>A total of 3,061 PlayStation games were released
According to wikipedia that is how many games it had.

Which one is is Smash Bros again?
Oh yeah, Banjo.

i only know banjo from diddy kong racing, they are also in smash still and had more games i think
worthless twitter faggot opinions are never good threads

Croc was on PS1, Saturn and PC and only barely managed to sell the same numbers as Banjo.

>According to wikipedia

Ps2 was over 7

You're posting on nintendogaf, don't bother

it's the generally recognized metric for success. get over it. you live in capitalist world son.

I love the smell of my farts my beefy smelly wet farts

Exactly. It played like garbage.

Have you even played Croc?

>You had fond memories of Banjo, not Croc!
Lol Banjo is shit and so are you.

Ka-Pow

>going from 3000 games to 4 games to 1 game to 0 games
How in the fuck did sony manage to do that

They shilled the shit out of it too. I remember it getting top billing on one of my PC Gamer demo discs. It still didn't last but about five minutes on my system before I uninstalled though.

lmao the nintendo bias in this thread is off the charts

This is the same retard who said Castlevania was never popular and people only know about it thanks to AVGN. He also went on to admit that he never even played Banjo or Croc.

Just like OP then lol

I played Croc 2 and Banjo as a kid. Both were fine, I liked both. Banjo obviously has more quality but Croc has this weird quirkiness that makes everything strange and interesting

So basically Croc faded away with dignity while Banjo has gotten whored out over and over

This is about the first Croc

first Croc has the same quirkiness.

Better soundtrack than banjo's farty music

>Croc
>Multiplat
>Also a third of the price of Banjo-Kazooie
Yeah no shit it sold roughly the same amount. Doesn't mean it's a classic.

You were still controlling a crocodile airship

Why Any Forums tries to defend Croc so much? It was mixed received back them, it lost against other mascot platformers even in the consoles it was on, people ask more about whatever happened to gex than for a croc sequel. If Crash was the Mario 64 equivalent, Croc is Buck Bumble.

croc is iconic though

Get him to screencap you post for a real surprise!

You wouldn't be asking why Croc wasn't memorable if you believed this. Something in your mind recognizes the disconnect, so you need context.

>A total of 4,000 game titles were released
Incorrect

Boutta WIZZOW this bitch

>Wikipedia
Never heard of executive territories?

i say this as someone who loved the ps1 in the 90s
croc sucked ass
cute noises though and cute mascot

>muh rentals
tendies really are retarded
OP would still have a point if rentals counted for an extra 50%, which they don't

It played ps1 games.
4 and 3 is 7.

People remember and talk fondly about Croc. What the fuck is this retard whining about? Of course people who like Nintendo and play nintendo games are going to bring up a nintendo game. Why the fuck would they bring up a game that was released on the Playstation? These people don't even know Ape Escape exists. It was very rare to have both at the time especially if you were poor so a lot of people went with the N64 since nintendo was already reliable and had a track record. Buying sony was taking a risk but it did pay off.

Just because Croc isn't as good as Banjo doesn't mean it's dogshit. I think it's a solid and respectable 7/10 experience that's enjoyable. But everyone thinks if a game isn't masterpiece then it must be a flop. Croc isn't nearly as bad as people say it is.

Superman 64 sold over one million copies.

This. The game was pretty rough. If you want a playstation mascot people loved and the games played alright you pick either Crash Bandicoot or Spyro. No one fucking picks Croc.

Because Nintendo is the brand for people with more purchasing power. Poor people don't have Nintendo and specially not back in the day. It's natural Nintendo players will dominate the discussion when they're better off in general.
