Final verdict? I just completed it for the first time and really enjoyed it quite a lot. Felt like a classic Metroid game, challenging enough at times but not punishingly difficult. Hardest part of the game was honestly some of the shinespark puzzles as some of them, especially that one in Burenia where you have to start at that short walkway through a door and save your shinespark at the literal end of the platform and then do it 2 more times up a ramp to get to the blocks.
Really nice atmosphere and setting overall too, and I liked the story for what little there was. At least I can see myself replaying it in the future. Hope we get another metroid game in the future like this.
It's just ok. Mid-tier. Super, Zero Mission, Fusion and AM2R are my favorites. Never played any Prime games because I never bought Nintendo after the 64.

gameplay wise it's the best in the genre, replayability is top notch, great bosses, and very fun sequence breaking
weak points would be weak environments with a handful of exceptions, too many loading screens/lack of seamless exploration and terrible OST
overall very good, easily 8/10

It's good, and acts as a decent lead-in to Metroid Dread's mechanics and style, but it's probably my least favorite of the Mainline series Super and beyond. A lot of the design just doesn't flow as well as Dread does and doesn't reach that level of Metroid atmosphere that it should. For my money, AM2R is still the best Metroid 2 that you can play.
Adrian Carter
Best in the series due to the movement. Also the Kraid fight gave Samus so much personality. Lots of replayability.
Wrong.
Josiah Carter
Movement alone puts incredibly high on my list of Metroid. Never get tired of it, don’t know how they did it. If there’s one thing they have to keep in the next game it’s that. Makes Samus Returns look like dogshit (it kinda is)

>no DLC where you play as Ravenbeak
Angel Bell
A very competent and solid Metroid game that feels great to play since the movement is so well tuned. The only real problem is the price. That $60 could get you at least three other Metroidvanias that are as good as Dread if not better, and with more content.
Thomas Hall
Step in the right direction and it's great they actually continued the story after Fusion, but it does so little with the story and all the environments are bland except for the water area. Most of the bosses are just the exact same copy/paste crap and Kraid is just there for no reason. So ultimately despite the movement and combat feeling good, it leaves you with nothing afterwards. Nothing to remember it by. So empty and soulless.
The next one needs energy and a reason to exist other than to prove that Metroid can work in the modern era.

5/10, half a Metroid game. No music, weird sound design, overhyped "muh sequence break," bosses don't drop anything, Plasma Beam is pussy tier, QTE OHKOs, counterattacks shouldn't exist in this genre, game constantly funnels you in one direction with the path behind you crumbling or a random invincible spicy mushroom just blocks you just to fuck with you, lazy bosses, etc.
Isaiah Stewart
>overhyped "muh sequence break" what is that even supposed to mean you mongoloid
Jason Gonzalez
It's entertaining but extremely forgettable. I could write you as essay about the last 5 games I played but I couldn't tell you a single thing about Dread beyond the Kraid fight and those shitty stealth sections. The music, too, was extremely forgettable.
Jack Evans
Good, but falls short of great, music was underwhelming, the beams and missiles still don't feel as nice as in Fusion and Prime 2 did the dread atmosphere better.
but gotta give credit where its due, Mercurysteam did a fantastic job with the animations, art design and new enemy types, they better still be working on Metroid.
Liam Thompson
Game's great but the music is awful, no idea what happened there
Nicholas Wilson
Because they put the fire area first. Really it isn't that early, more like bombs are just really late.
Isaiah Scott
I reaally liked it especially coming off of so many metroidvanias that are more castlevania than metroid.
