What's wrong with F2P in fighting games? You're literally paying less in total compared to re-releases and season passes.
>inb4 but i want all those characters and costumes that i'll never use!

I don't like f2p anything, I don't like playing with the poor.

The only good fighting games are made by Capcom, Bamco, and there's Blazblue. Japanese companies don't do F2P so you're implicating this is a western fighting game which is unplayable garbage.
The Riot fighter is going to flop hard.

I think F2P would actually work better for fighting games.

This

I don't usually give a shit about more than half the roster nor I really use them besides learning their stuff in training mode

Fighting games are not fortnite, warzone, fall guys or among us. Zoomers spend money on those games because they care more about showing of their legendary SSS skin that's only available at full moon during Saturnalia
Fighting game players are the exact opposite we care much more about actually playing the game than showing off our character's costume
If they really release an F2P SF or KOF people will just play the game and ignore season passes or whatever the fuck. The game would fail miserably, this is a niche genre it won't attract zoomers willing to buy a green speedo for Zangief

How would the devs make money?
