In level design? Debatable. Doom II however, is objectively better in weaponry (The SSG) and enemy variety. The Doom 1 enemy roster isn't very interesting. Revenants, Arch-Viles, Chaingunners, Arachnotrons and Mancubi are very important additions. Pain Elementals were a mistake though.

Refer to I'm guessing both of you just played E1 a couple times and think you're the Doom experts. Shooting the Doom 1 enemy roster gets fucking old. There's not a lot there compared to II, even just Revenants would make a huge difference.

Get the bundle with Doom II, which also includes The Plutonia Experiment now. They're all worth playing, basically the test is that if you enjoy E1 of Doom you will enjoy the rest of Doom and Doom II and Plutonia and most decent WADs.
