Do these hold up?

Give me the rundown boomers.
Are they worth the time?

Best RPGs of all time

Zoomer here, they're great. Unironically much better games then the later entires. Don't worry about build autism, just pick stuff that looks interesting and go.

I first played them like half a decade ago so I'd say they hold up pretty well. It might just take you a sec to adjust to the mechanics is all.

Fallout 1 is good. Great story and a serious, bleak tone. The combat sucks, but because the game is so short and easy it’s not too big of an issue.

Fallout 2 is garbage. Terrible, unfocused story with one dimensional cartoon villains and the game drags on for far too long.

I've always hated turned based games when combined with "open world" because I always hated feeling like I needed a partner with me just in case a fight was at uneven odds.

1 is good, but 2 goes full reditt with the pop culture references.

You kinda need too for 1. Never played 2.

Mechanics wise they are solid RPGs.

Story wise they are overrated. Fallout 1 had a great with some small problems but Fallout 2s story is a joke. Anyone who complains about Bethesda ruining the lore has never played this game.

No you don't, the fuck?

Yes. They hold up and are absolutely still worth playing today. Just don't play Tactics.

Absolute fucking trash. Repetitive garbage. Unlike anons want you to believe, the writing is shit too. There's only so many Monty Python references you can take before you feel the urge to punch the monitor

played both recently fallout 1's timer is rather annoying and I wouldn't blame you for downloading a mod to remove it as even the devs said it was a mistake, however it does add a interesting thing to it but i feel like it would only be fun if you already beat the game previously and know what to do

Yes, they're fun games

Yes, they are good.
Fallout 2 still gets mods as big as standalone game if you want an example.

The timer is extremely generous and can even be extended. I don't think it's worth modding the game over, but if you're a new player and you end up burning a bunch of time because you're stuck and don't know where to go next, I don't think there's any shame in peeking at a guide for a hint about where to go next just to keep things moving.

One of the best games ever made.
The amount of variables and ways to play in F2 is actually insane. F1 is much tighter, with a limited time to finish your quest, more raw postapo atmosphere.
F2 is sprawling open world where you can play however you want, with tons of quests.
Graphics is great, animations made with grwat care, excellent atmospheric sound and music and insane mods.
Both start in fucking rat dungeon which is obnoxious as fuck in turn base.

For me? they were.
For you? idk

>Just don't play Tactics.
Why? I love it. I have yet to find a game that would scratch the itch the way tactics did. It had great variability - close range, long range, CQC, cover, sentry mode, going gungho or stealth all the way, turn based, real time or hybrid mode, vehicles, side mission etc. etc.

Just beat them last week. One of the best RPGs I have ever played they are amazing

This is a Nu-Any Forums opinion only spouted by newfags

Play bethesda or larian games. Those are made for your generation.

I wanted to like it. Hell, I SHOULD like it since I enjoy Tactics and RTS games, but Tactics just feels horribly dated. Most it comes from the game feeling clunky and controlling like ass. Maybe there are mods to fix it, but I remember basic things annoying me like right click not moving your units.

Get the unofficial restoration project for FO2. It gives a fuckton of extra content, fixes bugs and restores areas that were cut from the original game due to time issues.

They're some of the best classic CRPGs. What is there to rundown?
Just play them and learn why people like them yourself, you fucking loser.

Since you are a zoomer i will automatically say no since you don't deserve good things

>recently fallout 1's timer is rather annoying and I wouldn't blame you for downloading a mod to remove it as even the devs said it was a mistake

It was a mistake because dumbasses like you that can't respect timers had issues with them, they keep dumbing down shit because of you.

I want to love them, I used to love them, it's my favorite setting, I used to get mad at post saying this, but they really are so difficult to play.

Wasteland 2 is a much better experience.

They have probably some of the worst turn based combat ever concieved for a video game. There's basically zero thought required and it's as shallow as a puddle of piss. You can't even control your team mates without installing a mod. But everyone just pretends the games are great because they're old ass crpgs, and as we all know, every single old ass crpg is the best game ever regardless of how objectively shit it is. If you want to read a book then read a book. Stuff like this and Planescape Torment get built up as these amazing intellectual accomplishments when in reality the writing is fanfic-tier and only the setting itself is interesting.

They were roleplaying games with actual choices, i know mindblowing. Even a great soundtrack , i know that modern western games all have shit soundtracks but back then they were actually capable of producing something decent. And like you said great locations and setting, overall if you put all that stuff together its already better than all the series clones like Atom RPG and Wasteland since those games are about as interesting and charismatic as white bread.
