Is Gears of War the ugliest AAA game ever?
It's a grey, brown and uninteresting world.
You're playing an ugly guy who runs around with other ugly guys and none of them have any charm, wit or likability. They're all these boring burly guys, grunting and shouting.
You're fighting against dull grey enemies that have ugly designs. They don't look cool or frightening - they're less interesting than zombies.
It's story that lacks any excitement or surprises.
Sure, the gameplay changed things by focusing on cover-based shooting. It wasn't the first game to do so, but it became the game every other 3rd person shooter emulated. A shame, but not GoW's fault.
Why the fuck does almost every aspect look like shit yet it still managed to become popular? Was it just because it started out as a 360 exclusive?

if you didnt play it on release day then you will never understand zoomie
>brown and grey are... le bad!
Worst effect that generation had was making people still to this day think a muted pallette is inherently bad. It was overdone back then sure.
Also big strong guys are good and you should either strive to be them or eat estrogen fag.
It's just a guy thing. You wouldn't understand, OP.
hahahahahahhaha
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
>I am a FLAMING zoomer RETARD:the post
You will NEVER understand what holding out against all odds against an alien threat with your fellow men feels like shitter
go play the snoy movie games and leave this masterpiece to us
graphically and gameplay wise gears and a lot of games of that era had improved insanely over just a few years
you dont understand that because you have played a billion games built off them since then.
I remember playing the first gears and being amazed at how photorealistic it was
You’re trans, you wouldn’t get it.

But it looks great. The architecture in particular is really unique and stylized.
Also this was that weird period in UE3 history where the games let you set a post-processing preset which affected stuff like color grading. Set it to "Vivid" and the game is much more colorful.
kino
Marcus you need to help me find all the Burger Kind Sonic figures
It is. Even the new games look like complete ass.
Horrible!
It's funny how you go for the age thing. Perhaps you had to be a certain, more easily impressed, age at the time it launched. Perhaps you just had to own a 360 with few exclusives.
I'm an old fart and I didn't see the appeal for this game. Played it when it was released on PC and thought it was just a mess. Haven't played any of the later games, maybe they were better.
This is your brain on fortnite and capeshit movies
early gears has too much testosterone for the modern nu-male
i suggest you try the recent gears of war games that have more estrogen
And once again people go for the age thing. No defense of the game, nu rebuttal, just a response that screams "I was a kid when this was released, therefor it was great!"
I played Duke Nukem 3D at launch. That was taking the super-testosterone-filled-male hero and had fun with it. Duke had more personality than any of the GoW characters. Or what about Kratos? God of War was released the year before GoW and was a much more enjoyable macho adventure.
Are you really saying you think the game looks good? Is it because you thought that grey and brown made a more "realistic", and therefore better, game? Do you really think the locusts are interesting in any way?
>posts the remaster
That's pretty much what I expected.
fits the rest of the games tone and presentation while also being technically impressive as a plus. gears of war was one of the few games the "brown and bloom" criticism didn't apply to, because the whole problem is that almost everyone was doing it regardless of the style of the game
But the tone sucked. Was it supposed to be a dark and somber setting? Then why use chad and the chadettes, the biggest quarterbacks ever, as protagonists? Was it supposed to be this "hell yeah!" adventure, with gore and vicious fights? Then why did it feel like no character had any joy or zeal?
The Mad World trailer is a perfect example. Let's show this huge muscle head run around in grey ruins with a constant scowl on his face, while we play this sad song. That trailer got a lot of attention since it was original, but the tone is all over the place.
>but the tone is all over the place.
It isn't if you actually play the game instead of making shit up
What have I made up?
It's all subjective of course, but I just never got the hype. It's not a good looking game and there's nothing charming about it. I get it if people liked this when they were kids. I liked the sly/schwarzenegger movies of the 80s as much as any other kid at the time. But I wouldn't look back at them now and claim they're all great.
It's possible that some anons are thinking about the later games, which I haven't played. But I still think that GoW is an ugly game with unlikable characters, boring enemies, and a plot that might as well not be there. Gameplay's fine though.
angry joe lookin ass
Who?
It's too manly for you, maybe play some animu shit. They have colorful graphics!

May be that it doesn't look like shit at all your opinon is just wrong.
Serious question here, no judgement:
How old were you when you played the first game?
