my theory is that it looks so fucking bad because its specifically designed to work on the shittiest phones for the massive indian/SEA/African market

yeah I doubt they'll do well, they probably saw how popular work-from-home and distance working has become and thought they'll capitalise on it without realising that it just complicates everything further and people can't stay in vr for very long without getting sick. most workers wouldn't use this because it offers no benefits at all, and the people who would use it hate zucc and are incredibly distrustful of anything facebook related.

This is such a clunky corporate tool. Imagine instead of wearing this junk on your head, you walk into a room in your house with a giant screen that displays a collective office space. When a camera sees you in the room, your avatar also shows up in the room and a mic turns on that lets you talk to others in the room. You can leave the audio on, so you can over hear group chatter when you're not in the room. There would also be controls to let you change rooms, mute your mic, etc. You get the collaborative flow of the office, but also the privacy without the head gear that keeps you from multi tasking in your current home office set up.
