Is the chase for realism in games coming at the cost of gameplay?

Is the chase for realism in games coming at the cost of gameplay?

this is an american problem

Mostly, yes.

I think the tools are too powerful for the available human skill. Makes you think what is the point of all that raw power.

The chase for Realism saves us from shit like this.

Yes, and it started with 3D.

Literally every 3D action or shatforming game in existence is worse than the weakest 2D action or platformer.

Yes, far more budget is spent on graphics rather than gameplay and most adjustments to gameplay are a significant endeavor afterwards.

No. marketing budgets are over twice as much as graphics budget.

>no because of another unrelated problem

Correct. The problem is actually something unrelated to what OP suggested.

Fucking try harder to find the original image you hack shitposter.

You are correct. Realism has become a crutch for the lack of talented gameplay artists.

>now, hold forward on the left stick while we mask loading screens instead of adding more gameplay

I'm mostly in agreement. Though, sometimes I don't mind an open world game if it's not Ubishit.

>0 realistic games
>reeee, games are chasing realism
Why retard like this?

Gameplay > Visuals/Audio > Story
Most open world games have the most linear questlines and some linear games have a good amount of open-endedness to the level design, so I reject the linear/openworld meme dichotomy.

Partially true, but open world games are a majority copy paste missions amd bullet sponges. The best open world you play is your first one.

Graphics/Art > Gameplay > Story > Sound
Linearity and Open world aren't related. You may very well have an "open world" game that's exceedingly linear like MGS5.

Don't play realistic looking games with shitty game-play and it won't be a problem

Meant well designed levels, but I've been shitposting in four different threads and switching tabs quickly.

The problem is that everyone else does, and those sell, and those games selling means other games will copy them.

DMC V is the proof that you can do realistic graphics without fucking up the gameplay. You guys only hate realism in videogames because you’re contrarians and/or hipsters

Then why isn't every realistic-looking game as good as DMC V?
