Muv-Luv is average. discuss

Never before have I been at such a stark disconnect to other people when it comes to understanding this visual novel. I really have no idea what people see in it. It's good, but just good. I wouldn't even say it's great. It's borderline worth reading, even if you like mecha stuff.

I've read some other VNs before this and it just feels like every single little aspect of this VN and what it does is fleshed out better elsewhere. If it started these trends, that's fine, but treat it like a piece of history and not like it's still the best.

To be honest, my main gripe is with Alternative. This is where everyone is going to think this is a bait post. The latter half of Alt is so insanely different than everything in the entire trilogy and I completely stopped caring about the plot at that point. I like to theorize about what can happen in the stories I read while I read them, but I hit a point where it just feels useless. There is so much opened up in Alt that makes the story seem like it can go anywhere, yet it ends in the most bland way you can predict, nearly 20 hours before the actual ending. Unlimited was goofy sci-fi, I'm not going to act like it was realistic, but Alt is suspension of disbelief breaking. It brings it to the point where fighting aliens with mechs seems barbaric and retarded with the amount of technology they are creating on a whim.

By the time I got to the NTR scene with the girl I didn't care about that's railroaded into the story HARD, I knew I was just going to watch sad porn until it was over. Everything sad after the chomp is so fucking boring honestly, I mean you have like 10 characters that all die in the same way, each have more character development in their little 2 minute death spiel than in the entirety of the rest of Alt, and then they proclaim their love to you (for no reason) because in the end it's always been a harem eroge and it ends a shitty harem eroge

What's the matter, don't like takeru monologuing about how useless he is 127 times in a row and being completely right every single time?

If I had more words I could add to the OP, I would have definitely added that. I think the entire thing could be better with half the dialogue being cut out or even made into an anime. It's actually one Visual Novel that I think doesn't fit the medium, where the perspective and introspection really don't add anything of value.

>took me 5 minutes to write

come on guys you could at least write filtered or didn't read or something, this is pitiful

git gud

overall I thought extra > alternative > unlimited, and I thought extra was below average compared to a generic moege.
There were long, boring parts with no humor like the lacrosse stuff. The characters weren't very likeable. The storylines weren't very interesting. And of course the awful MC dragged it down further.
Alternative had a couple exciting parts but also MANY hours of absolute garbage. I don't care about realism or whatever I just didn't find it interesting.
Unlimited wasn't as offensively bad but it didn't have anything at all going for it.

Muv-luv was made to be subversive to the slice of life anime crowd, the problem with this is that the first game is a filter of sorts that stops people from getting into the series. The first game tricked the slice of life audience, and this caused them be open to the genre shift after having gotton to know the characters in the setting they where accustomed to, but nowadays, every store that sells the game spoils the twist, so people that like fucked up mecha hate sitting through the slice of life, while people that like slice of life probably won't play the game as they know it ends up as a flesh mech thing.

I avoid it after finding out it self censors and cut hentai out in future version.

I don't like chunnishit drama, so no comment here. I'd rather read their modern day drama title like Kiminozo or Kimiita for my moege dose

I can definitely echo this sentiment, I've tried to get into Muv Luv several times because of how much people praise it but every time I drop it a few hours into Extra. At this point I find the characters so insufferable I think I'd only get cartharsis from seeing the suffering porn the series apparently turns into.

It's the greatest visual novel of all time. There's a reason it's the highest rated VN on VNDB.
I can tell from the way your post is written that you're on the spectrum, which is why you didn't enjoy it.
Cope, seethe and dilate.

>every store that sells the game spoils the twist
Yes, false advertise your VN to the slice of life audience, let's see how well it'll sell.

>didn't like Sumika
Here's your problem, buddy. Muv Luv itself is essentially just a Gunparade March clone that outright rejects the Mai hero route (Mai is renamed Meiya but their personalities and mannerisms are near identical).

It's a great VN trilogy that winds up better than its "inspiration".

Yea see my problem is anyone who actually likes it can't even iterate on it, and suspiciously brings up the fact that it's the highest rated VN of all time, every time. Yes, people clearly like it. Marvel shit and the avengers are also some of the highest rated and most well liked movies of all time. It doesn't mean anything to me. Tell me what Muv-Luv does that other VNs can't touch

I think it's just scale. I personally really like Muv Luv, but I understand it's not some amazing piece of literature that's gonna change your life. Extra is pretty standard and Unlimited is kinda interesting, but Alternative is the huge payoff to the entire thing. Up to the Sadogashima arc conclusion it was pretty fucking solid besides the Japan rebellion arc. Takeru, while kinda vanilla, is actually a character now and likable to the point that he's one of my favorite protags in anything. The girls are relegated to background characters thankfully since they got plenty of time to shine in Extra and unlimited leaving more time for Takeru and Yuuko to actually do shit. Those 2 pretty much carry the whole thing and I don't really care for the Valkyries much since they had expendable written all over them from the start. They also only served to develop Takeru's character even more so whatever.

Anyways it was solid and pretty good. I think it's only really held in such high regard is that it's such a big project and can deliver on hype pretty effectively. I haven't really read many other VNs that good either so maybe it's a lot worse than I think

Same thoughts here, the latter half of Alternative is a shit show, the power scaling gets fucking absurd real quick, characters dying in the beginning felt like it had weight but it became so thoughtless in the later half as the author said "fuck it" and became predictable. The biggest insult is the end, holy fuck that is one of the worst endings I've ever seen in a VN. Another big VN that I don't get that has a lot of praise is Baldr Sky, seriously fuck Baldr Sky

WA2 CC is going to take over the 1 spot in a year,
Rance X, Uta 3, Muramasa and Sakura no Uta are going to have a a better score in a couple of years. The age of boomers VNs are dying user

What if I don't like Moeshit?

>Yea see my problem is anyone who actually likes it can't even iterate on it
That's rich coming from someone who wrote a post to the character limit that said absolutely nothing of substance. That's why I called you autistic by the way, not because you dislike Muv Luv, but because you wrote a rambling incoherent mess that explains nothing and is incredibly vague. It's clear that communication is not a strong suit of yours, and you think people will just implicitly understand all the jumbled up thoughts floating in your head when you haphazardly vomit them into text format.
>Marvel shit and the avengers are also some of the highest rated and most well liked movies of all time
No they aren't lmao.

None even in the top 50. Find a better retarded nonsensical boogeyman, idiot.
>Tell me what Muv-Luv does that other VNs can't touch
This is another reason I think you have legitimate autism. What answer are you expecting to find? When have you ever had your opinion/personal enjoyment of something radically altered by a post on Any Forums or any forum? I could tell you that Muv Luv is one of the most emotionally cathartic stories I've ever experienced, and I could explain what I think it did right in order to accomplish that, but clearly that wasn't the case for you and no explanation on my part is going to change that. I'm not going to change your opinion, and you're not going to change mine, so why waste our breath?

Baldr Sky is shit.
Muv Luv is only good when Sumika is out of the picture.
Utawarerumono SOL is the only good part, everything else including the gameplay, therefore by extension the entirety of third game, is shit
Sengoku Rance is shit in everything else except the gameplay when compared to its predecessors

>The age of boomers VNs are dying user
>Rance X
>Under Water Ray Ramano
>Muramasa
Also lmao at the insinuation Muramasa is going to overtake it. Most overhyped VN of all time finally got translated and came out to the aplomb of a wet fart.
