Depends on the game. Nine times out of ten, I prefer to have classes, since I tend to appreciate the ability to customize a nameless rank-and-file soldier. "Heroes" are fine, as long as there's a decent number of them to choose from that can cover a range of roles and differing playstyles. Using Overwatch as an example, I like being able to play the heavily armoured large German man, the gorilla and the gravity man. I like tanks, but each of them approaches the role in a differnet manner. Same kind of deal as fightan games, really.
