just like the android S1 and S2 ports decomp allowed for pc versions, the SM decomp can allow for playing on older/other plats (mainly android and possibly N3DS) and also, can be useful as a key to decomp the S3K part of Origins, allowing to have the absolute definitive versions of all classic sonic games everywhere

1.- SM is still very limited moddingwise, at most you can make levels but you are still limited by the available actors, also only sprite replacing.
2.- the Origins Ports suck
3.- S3AIR is not the same as the Decomps of S1 and 2.
