Soul nomad has an enjoyable story and characters, but the gameplay isn't as fun as disgaea or la pucelle.

Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, and Soul Nomad for SRPG's. Labyrinth of Refrain for a decent dungeon crawler (not the best in the genre, but I liked it).

I wouldn't say that. All Disgaea's are solid gameplay wise, but they can get extremely repetitive. If you've played one, you've pretty much played them all. You'll see a lot of tweaks and QoL improvements, but the main gameplay loop is near identical in all the games.

labyrinth of refrain looks really good

LoR is meh. The NiS way of super grind and super numbers doesn't mesh well eith dungeon crawling imo. I ended up dropping it on the fuck huge two towers dungeon, but I was already kind of tired of it in the forest area.
I'm also not quite fond of the gameplay/story disconnect, though I understand why and I can't say I wasn't intrigued by plot.
A bit weirded out by the lesbian rape, felt a bit much.

Vita 3 is good, though 3 is a hit or miss for most people.
4 has it's updated port on both the Vita, Swtich and I think PS4, this one being more favored by the fans.
5 is on PC, Switch, and PS4. A lot of people like the mechanics in the game but the story and gutted item world are a drag. Its also the first game to have sold all the usual postgame cameo fights as DLC, though the complete edition has them all bundled with the game.
6 is a trainwreck with its only good side was having a likable cast.

Being someone that really likes RPing generics I really enjoyed how Disgaea 3 gave you both genders' versions of the classes. Male Samurai is stylish as hell

They're literally all solid. Each game iterates on the previous games gameplay so 5 is probably the best in that regard (Dunno about 6, haven't played that). In terms of story, 3 and D2 are on the low end. 1 probably still has the best story, but that could just be nostalgia at this point.
So 4 and 5 are the "better" games you haven't played yet, with 4 having the better story and 5 having the better gameplay.

Refrain is an acquired taste. It is a mediocre dungeon crawler in which you do need to be able to switch your brain off and grind through certain parts, but I actually ended up enjoying the cast and story much more than I thought I would. Don't hesitate using the character builder to plan out your builds and to find grind spots, as the game can get very bloated when it comes to the final boss stats. Overall it's definitely a game you'd wait for a sale on.

4 can be played on all the ones listed above, though the vita version may be the one to be wary of since it has a glitch with the english rifle demon's voice causing game crashes.
5 is playable on all the above with its complete edition.
6 is Switch only in the west for now but it'll be getting a complete port for the PS4 soon.
