I don't blame people who play on those difficulties if they are playing sunlust and shit like that.

Doing that on UV or Nightmare is fun because there are enemies to shoot
On the easier modes there are less enemies, therefore less things to shoot, therefore less fun

I did when I was a wee lad. DooM was basically an horror game for me and I'd run from specters as opposed to just gunning them down. Didn't help that Romero loved putting dark areas everywhere.

I used to pick the mode that made me stronger as a kid because I didn't understand the concept of difficulty modes in a game at the time. I couldn't get why someone would make their character weaker intentionally in a game because to me games were a sandbox to have fun in, not a challenge to be overcome.

I think it around the time I was a teenager and actually had other people to play games with that I had a 180 in my thought process, because now suddenly clearing a game on the highest difficulty was a way to prove how much better you were at a game than your friends. Prior to that, when it was just me solo, the thought never crossed my mind.

I generally will with a lot of more modern maps, mainly because modern mappers absolutely suck with monster placements and don't understand some of the most basic no-no's about shit like putting chaingunners in sniper positions.

Doom was likely to be the first FPS you ever played, when it came out. If youve literally never played a computer game before, it makes sense to play on the easiest mode.

As a modern gamer going back to doom, of course the lower difficulties are completely pointless for you, you already have experience with far more complicated modern titles

Do you not know what "top" means? Like as in "the top of a list"?

I have always played Doom on UV, never lower. Nightmare was designed to be bullshit and I don't bother.

ultra violence is like heroic in halo or hard in RE3, it's basically normal+, nothing close to well done in blood.

The only difference is that on Nightmare monsters are resurrected every 20 seconds, for speedrun it doesn't make any difference.

on the highest difficulty doom becomes more akin to a puzzle game
you need a good route and sense of timing to survive the onslaught. really memorable too i remember spending nearly 20 minutes holding out and quicksaving in a smaller area before moving out. fun as hell
