why are there so many fucking oil rigs in this series? does kojima ever explain his obsession with them?

it's an american based game
i finally beat mission 31 and enjoyed alot of the missions. now playing the side ops and missions after chapter 2, the game has honestly lost its magic to me.
should i really bother playing past chapter 1? its all fucking repeat missions. I also wanna try other mgs games like snake eater but dont have a ps2 unfortunately.
>ahhh yers amelikans arr rive on oir ligs! we wirr put tem in arr awa games!
Isn't there just the one in MGS5? What other games have them?
Big Shell
I think it's something about their association with extraterritoriality. Which is a big theme of MGS.
MGSV, portable ops, MGS4, MGS2, and one or both of the original metal gear games.
Ackchyually, the Big Shell was a marine decontamination facility established after the tanker incident. Of course, this was just a cover for the development of Arsenal Gear.
Chapter 2 is dogshit and you're honestly lucky if you can avoid it. Also you can play the hd collection if you have xbox 360, one, series x or ps3 even though its not perfect.
shut the fuck up
>portable ops
you mean peace walker right? or was there another one in po i'm forgetting
Unironically I feel what little there is in chapter 2 is far better than the narrative of chapter 1, all the bullshit about vocal cord parasites, uranium that rusts metal, quiet, the walker gears etc. Just completely lost me, chapter has like an hour of story content but it focuses on the shit thats alright imo. Venom being a schizo, DD turning on itself after skullface and whatnot.
But yeah the repeated missions is egregious and the game had no right being given 10/10s all over the place in the state its in.
You're correct. Thank you for the correction.
Fake fan.
They are cool?
yeah pw
chapter 2 consists of
>only a handfull of new missions, less if you haven't gotten Quiet's bond level up
>having to fuck around and do side-ops until Kojima decides you can continue the story because to get the actual ending for the game you have to jump through hoops
>Kino cutscenes that kind of make up for the prior bullshit
>Game just suddenly ends
It's fine.
You don't have to do any of the repeat missions to finish the game, just get Quiet's bond level to max and get most of Mother Base's platforms to level 4
Also do all the wandering MSF soldier side missions (if you didn't do those as soon as they came up you're a gay motherfucker) and the child rescue side missions
The OSP missions are really the only fun repeats but you can easily get mods to start without any equipment
>TGARM
The bases in MGSV gave me the deepest sense of isolation and loneliness I've ever felt in my life. Imagining the kind of man who would give up life on land in a country to go be some cog in the mercenary proxy war machine, living on these oil rigs with no friends or family, only bonding with his comrades and his superiors, it feels really lonely to me.
Not the guy you replied to, but I thought Quiet was only required for mission 45, which is optional as I got mission 46 without using Quiet once?

It's not like they have a choice.
You're literally kidnapping them and keeping them in jail until they agree to die for you.
Nice isolated places where few people are going to come check up on you. You can get up to a lot of shenanigans without anyone knowing whats happening or who is doing it.
It's kino
I've been thinking about replaying MGSV
any ideas on how to make it fun again?
