The new Saints Row is out in 2 weeks.
None of the SKUs are in the top 100 on Amazon (PS5 version is ~#250) so this will almost certainly be an expensive mega-bomb.
What went so wrong? Is this the end of Deep Silver/Volition?

My guess is that it's the reboot effect: if you use an existing name to create a new IP and it doesn't meet people's expectations, it does worse than creating something brand new and all the noise becomes negative.

Saints Row is one of the most frustrating franchises out there. It was originally little more than another developer's take on the GTA formula, but it came into its own and found it's identity with the 2nd game. After that, they just decided to throw everything they'd been building for years out and keep trying to reinvent the Saints as something else.

It's like they gave a spastic 12yr old creative control after 2008, and it's been sad to watch a once-promising franchise fizzle out into complete irrelevancy.
