If someone's sexuality doesn't affect the plot, it doesn't need to exist at all. If someone could be straight/gay/attack helicopter/whatthefuckever, and it wouldn't change the narrative at all, then it should be left out because it's clearly not important. If you want two people to be in a relationship and they're gay, that's fine. It just better be relevant to their motivations, decisions, and experiences within the story. Same as if it's a straight couple. If there's a male and a female in a relationship but it doesn't have any bearing on the story, why the fuck is it in there?

No one liked the Thrall storyline back in Cataclysm where he got himself a wife. It was badly written and completely out of place in Warcrafts relatively un-sexual world.
The alphabeti-identity storylines are the same, out of place and badly written and the character thrusting it into the unwarranted spotlight usually makes them unlikable.
Gay characters in fitting scenarios / games genres I'm fine with. Zappa is a well written gay character. He's the best character in the game. He also doesn't bring it up until he's asked to weigh in on if cowtits or flat is best.

They mean that you have to go out of your way (even minimally) to see it. A concrete example brought up is a hunter in the witcher 3 who will tell the player that he's homosexual, but only if the player exhausts that NPCs dialogue options. The article strongly seems to suggest that homosexuality should feature even more prominently by not attaching it to the players choices. I can only assume the author would be satisfied by the example, if the hunter were an NPC essential to progressing the game, who would tell you about his sexuality in an unskippable dialogue. But don't take my word for it, I strongly encourage everyone to practice good media literacy and read the articles yourself. Sometimes the right context is obfuscated by the OP. Sometimes the posted image is doctored, or the article is fabricated entirely. In this case, it really is as stupid as it looks.
