Used to make friends in vidya games all the time

>used to make friends in vidya games all the time
>Now i havent made a friend online in years
am i getting older or have games gotten less social? Its ironic that everything is now online, yet also so anti-social.

>am i getting older
has nothing to do with it

>have games gotten less social?
they have

Also people are mentally ill and everyone has either social "anxiety" or some other form of debilitation that prevents them to socialise. Videogames are being designed around these genetic dead ends and whole genres turn to shit (see MMOs). Everything needs to be able to be done solo or with the least amount of interactivity.

Making friends online is over, having actual social games like back then is over, people are completely different today.

Well, at least i know it isnt my fault then

All of the modern systems of "convenience" have most of all stripped out any need for socialization, in fact it stamped it out aggressively.
They stifled the freedom of users in order to make everything "fair." They "streamlined" gameplay to make everything regulated and psychologically manipulative rather than fun. Queues, matchmaking, inability for modding, everything in control of the publisher and not the community.

It's no surprise that the "survival" genre has become a big hit following the success of Terraria and Minecraft. They still allow for freedom and organic multiplayer and content that is actually in the hands of the people who play them.

Games haven't become more anti-social, you have. You could join some Discord groups, or talk about games on Twitter, or join some Twitch streamer's community or something, but you won't because you hate all those people. You probably hate Any Forums too.

>make an mmo(massively multiplayer online)
>make all content clearable solo
Even in mmos there's barely any incentive to make friends, even when in a guild, because everything can be cleared solo or can be pugged. Not to mention, all of the normalfaggots that play games now. Don't care of its in a game I don't want to interact with these dumb fucks.

now you quick queue into a match making system where you're paired with people you'll play with for 5 minutes and never see again
15 years ago you'd go through a server browser and favorite the good servers and little communities would form

yeah it used to be that elite mobs required at least two people to kill them (unless you had a pet class), now you can just charge through everything.

You’re just like me. Straight up anti social. If I really wanted to I could make friends online like I used to, but why bother? I’m old now, and nobody wants to play games with me anymore.

most games force people to be friendly or at least tolerable, go figure why. I played ranked league before when you can be reported for a literal skill issue. The banter was natural, coarser, nd more original. In my experience the good kinds of friemds are the ones who can tolerate bullshit and dish it out as well, something the fakeness of voicechat and text will rarely accomplish. But then again I dont add people to my friend list because they're good, I add people because they're fun to pay with

have you tried asking them nicely

I know this is an mmo thread but i made a bunch of friends in fighting games last year

There was an online friends thread earlier and I met another Irish user but then the thread archived. You in here by any chance?

On Any Forums or Discord?

on steam, sometimes people will add me after playing, and sometimes I'll add someone

I've never done that, seems scary. Guess I'll try it when the new MBTL patch hits.

At 29 years old it's a mix of things for me.

>a) matchmaking being so common place as opposed to a server browser
>b) increased variety of games, there's still flagship titles with huge playerbases but socially those typically attract the people in point c
>c) gaming's increase in popularity and the advent of streamer culture has created a huge population of people who look everything up, try to be streamers or competitive players
>d) in my late 20's i actually can't play games as long as i used to, nor do i want to. i can't hang out with people online for like 5 hours and frankly the idea of playing a game i don't really want to for the sake of friends after work kind of nauseates me

It's gotten bad. The last few times I played MMOs I didn't guild up and I would reject friend requests. Occasionally I would level with randoms and hit it off with them but then came time for the friend request and the realization this dude is expecting me to do it all again tomorrow and I just don't give a shit in that way anymore since I'm probably going to be playing a different game or experience some tired gamer shit where I suddenly stop giving a fuck about the game I'm playing.

It's not an online thing only, either. I've been hanging out with a friend nearly every weekend for years and when he convinced me to get a PS4 I didn't play online with him once lmao. Ended up selling it once I played through BB

I play Apex Legends. I've often thought of joining a Doscord or something but I wonder: what ate the odds of finding someone who is
A) at my skill level (average)
B) has good chat
C) isn't an insufferable sjw zoomer

More chances of winning the lottery

the worst that could happen is them denying your friend request or calling you a scrub... or even worse... inviting you to their discord server...

>meet someone and start doing ocasional voicechat
>oops they were recording your talks all these time, now your voice will be online forever :)
>meet someone and start making politically incorrect jokes
>oops they posted screenshots of your conversations and now they will be online forever :)
>meet someone and send some pics of places you visit or thing you like
>oops now those picture are forever stuck in their hard drive :)

When I used to could say whatever I wanted I’d make friends on games
When they started banning people for it I quit using voice chat and as years have passed I have decided friends are not worth the trouble usually irl or in game so I no longer seek low value friends. It is a little bit of both

I have an ex girl friend who I would send cock pics and her baby daddy still has these pictures on his phone and regularly shows them to her and accuses her of fucking me again. Same picture ever time this man has had a picture of my cock on his phone for 4 years now

And that's why you should never send nudes

fucking kek nigga, its a remote cucking situation

>join some Discords
Sure
>talk on Twitter
Twitter is 90% bots and the rest is mentally ill people looking for something to brag about or be offended about. You wont have a good discussion there ever.
>join Twitch chat
The streamer has to have like 20 viewers for this to be comfy. Most people dont watch or care about small streamers, everyone just goes to the massive one to spam in chains. Streaming in general has become so awful, along with youtube. Its all manufactured identities and reactionism for donation bux.
