For me the problem with SFV isn't the quality, it's the aesthetic and overall design. I dislike it. I can see why people like it though. I happen to like SF6's designs more, but dislike its lighting and realistic style.

SFIV was cartoony and going for a 90s American cartoon aesthetic. It wasn't gorgeous but it was functional and successfully revived the competetive 2D fighting genre.
SFV was a mixed bag. Some models were really excellent, others were hideous. Also everything retained a sweaty clay aesthetic and everyone had playdoh hair which was a weird artistic decision.

The problem with 5 is that they outsourced like half the fucking game's model and animation work past the first couple seasons.
It's incredibly obvious when putting characters side by side, like Menat vs Sakura, or hell, comparing the default roster's base moves compared to the stuff they added. Shit like Ryu's Donkey kick in 5 and Cammy's air throw.
They only started getting their shit together somewhat with the last season, like, Dan looks great, but there's also shit how Oro animates and Luke in general.

in retrospect SF4 was probably one of the best looking games of its generation when it released, every attack and movement kicks up a huge dust cloud, all the great effects like the super combo lightning, even the house of cards-style stages hold up better than other 3D games.
