What is the point of getting 120 hz+ monitors?

What is the point of getting 120 hz+ monitors?

I buy ultrawide 1440p 165 hz display, and I have RTX 3080 which is the "4k playing card" because 3090 box says 8k.

I play Bioshock Remastered Collection (2014) Fallout 3, NV, 4 (2007/10/14) Resident Evil 5, and maybe 10-15 other games from 2006-2021.

I have NEVER seen a game go 165 from this list even being 13+ years old.

RE5 - 1440p maxed out - 120 fps / 41% GPU utilization

Bioshock 1 non remastered - 1440p maxed out - 106 fps, remastered 98 fps.

If games from 2000-2015 go up to 120 max, and rarely, and 2015-2021 go up to 80 max, then why would the monitor be 165, 240 etc.

Only stupid old games very specific ones get crazy frame rate.. Minecraft

I can turn my ps1 emulator up to 240 fps but that's not normal and the game goes super fast.

It seems to me like the 40 series is about to come out, and they're saying this is the biggest jump yet, and the 2080 Ti was a 35% increase over 1080 Ti and the 3080 Ti is an 40% increase over 2080 Ti. So even with 50% increase RDR2 will be 70 fps 1440p on 4080, and maybe 80~ on 4090.

The games are getting too advanced is what I used to think but now I realize even the old games don't play at this framerate

>bought galaxy s22 ultra
>try a few games
>can't see the difference between 60 and 120

Congrats user now you understand the marketing scam behind high refresh rate. 1440p 120hz on an OLED is the only thing you need and you're set for a life of comfiness.

The price difference is usually negligible going from 120hz to 165. You barely can even find 120hz monitors nowadays, its pretty much a tv only thing. Having the extra leeway in refresh rate is nice as long as you have gsync ultimate.
Paying above 400 dollars for 1440p monitors is pointless, the tech is maxed out for the average user. We'll just have to wait until more QD-OLEDs hit the market for an actual tangible upgrade.

>oled
>set for life
you mean set for a 1-2 years because of burn in. oled's are good but its to soon. they still haven't figured out this problem.

I just play my switch no fucks given.

So you can waste even more money on overpriced hardware while graphics have been stagnant since 2010 and the human eye literally doesn't know the difference between 60 and 120fps.
Basically, it's an IQ check.

Name your cpu model. Guarantee it's some 3560k shit.

The only games worth playing are all easily run at 120fps by mid tier hardware. No need to feel all smug about being a poorfag

>the human eye literally doesn't know the difference between 60 and 120fps.
mine do. seems like a (you) problem

>We'll just have to wait until more QD-OLEDs hit the market for an actual tangible upgrade
Fuck, man, I'm dying to get one. The second a 1440p 144Hz non-ultrawide QD-OLED gets released, I'm blowing all my cash on one. I wanna see what real HDR is like.

3700X
>inb4 AyyMD

No, it's literally just a placebo effect.

QD-OLEDs supposedly last a bit longer because they dont need to work as hard to be as bright. Obviously the data isnt out yet since its new tech, but its promising. Alienware also has a 3-year burn in warranty which isnt bad.

There's no point in 60hz monitors even, we're fully capable of seeing clear motion at 25fps. You're a sheep who fell for the same marketing as high refresh retards

>muh burn in
Lmao its not 2007 anymore. That said oled monitors are generally trash

Higher Hz monitors, assuming they have less input lag, are best used for video games where reactions are important--not all games work correctly when running at higher FPS.
You will mainly see those types of monitors used in competitive games, such as FPS games or fighting games.

I had both 90 and 120 FPS phones. While the higher frame rate is obviously nice I've always ended up setting it to 60 because honestly there's no fucking point and I'd rather have a battery charge that lasts for longer.

Have you ever used dxvk onnold games? I used it an old 2003 dx9 game and went from 100-200 fps in gameplay to 400-800 fps. Old games are only using 1 cpu thread for rendering instead of all of the cpu.

name a single fighting game with support for framerates over 60fps

blind retard
