He's right. You will never be good because you are never practising map awareness or comms or positioning. You can't 'train' initiative. Sure you'll probably aim better but there's other things that factor in that, even with inferior aim can wind up beating you.

Not that guy, but in most games you do a lot of other things than just shooting at people most of the time, and when you want to practice the shooting aspect, an aim trainer will do a better job.
It's just like in a sport where you may practice serves, penalties, etc. separately.
