how? RE4 has fantastic pacing, enemy placement, level design, gameplay/weapon variety, a lot of attention to detail, a great soundtrack, strong atmosphere, and I'm pretty sure it has more gameplay depth than any other third-person shooter
playing it is basically a lesson in good game design, and PvZ is pretty much the same, it has no real flaws I can think of, unless you just dislike simpler games

For RE4 it's a controls thing. I grew up with Tomb Raider and other tank control games so I have a tolerance for that, but RE4 just doesn't feel good to play. I'll probably try the remake though.
Similar story for MGS2.
For PvZ I don't hate it, just tried it briefly ages ago and didn't find it interesting.

Portal 2 is a co-op game, singleplayer is basically an interactive Pixar movie. HL2 style writing suits this game more, at least it doesn't take itself that seriously. Valve shouldn't make sequels.
