Alan wake one is good the other is just endless tunnels with a geoforming mechanic that forces backtracking due to how the powers are acquired.

Finished the main story a few days ago.
Very cool setting and style trapped in a straightjacket of AAA design tropes.
Skill trees, loot, leveling enemies etc All of that is just straight up bloat to me.
Just ditch all that garbage.
Create more interesting non-combat investigation tools, create crazier upgrades and powerups than 10% reload speed.
Let me actually use the rubber ducky, the hotline, etc and give them surprising and interesting effects.
(For example maybe the hotline could connect you to a random other player who can send you garbled and distorted messages as hints)
But then again maybe Remedy are working with too big budgets now to make something that might alienate the typical AAA audience.
