Balance update when? They need to nerf pawn chains

En passant has been around for awhile. It was invented 100+ years ago specifically to speed up the opening.

You know the reason this is a thing? Because pawns originally couldn't move two spaces at a time. They only added the two space movement to speed up the early game. En passant simulates the pawn being captured after moving one space since technically it's not supposed to jump over that space.

You got it backwards. En passant was introduced because the pawn initial double move broke the game when it was introduced.
Players used to castle manually before castling was introduced, its there just to speed up the game

>ADHD zoomers need to speed up chess so that they won't fall asleep
lol, lmao even

why are only pawns allowed to capture en passant though?

only managed to pull that off once in my life

it's not solved user, what the hell are you talking about

To that, I can only shrug.
I guess the megaboomers who played back in the 19th century weren't professional game designers.
