are CRT shaders soulful or soulless?
Are CRT shaders soulful or soulless?
Soulful when done right. I like some of the ones on RetroArch.
Necessary.
explain
If you're playing games that were made during the CRT era you want to use a CRT shader to reproduce the correct visual look of those games.
/lick
Soulful. I only have a 1080p monitor and even the presets on retroarch were astoundingly good. I have been considering buying a 4k monitor for ages now, specifically just to use CRT shaders properly.
I wish my parents still had a giant CRT in the basement. I miss playing PSX and Gamecube games as a kid and not worrying about component input and frame rate and all this garbage.
Same, had a huge Japanese made CRT monitor but we sold it.
>le heckin quirky 7 bit retro hommage platformer
>no shaders, no filters
>duuuuude its so heckin retro
Is it so hard to soften up the edges in your pixel shit game? Do these "people" just don't give a shit or do they think that people haven't played on a CRT? It's jarring and its annoying having to move away from the monitor just to trick your eyes a bit.
enjoy your fucking brain cancer
You will need the CRT shaders on some games to emulate transparency on most Genesis games. You will also need the shaders for the correct pixel smear on most games. You also need color correction shaders for the GBA. Don't also forget to set the aspect ratio. You can do none of this. But it's not a 1-to-1 experience visually.
Is it true that we lost the technology to make new CRT tv's?
Yeah, just like we've lost the tech to make tape recorders.
I think they just don't give a shit or they're lazy.
I play with them on as I think they look better but I also think they make bullets harder to see in shmups. Excuse the proportions the screenshot is w/ my monitor turned vertical
My guess is these nu-indie artists played those old games on a modern display without shaders hence these high contrast pixel garbage.
Yes.
is there even a single ''retro pixel'' indie game that atleast tries to replicate true old 2d graphics?
CRT has better color accuracy than modern monitors. Not sure why all you zoomies meme it as some ancient tech that looks like shit.
Use OLED retard.
Soulful but it's hard to achieve the same look of the original hardware.
Spoonfeed me the best ones
I grew up playing on crt and I never use them, or any other filter. I like my screen clear and crisp.
I can think of two game that tried (emphasis on tried), its Odallus and Blasphemous. Odallus, a SNES Castlevania clone, has a "TV mode" which are basic scanlines which dont break up pixels. The CRT filters from Blasphemous are literally just an afterthought (2-3 years after release) and are more of a gimmick since they distort the image to a retarded degree.
I guess you could say they tried, I just dont know if they tried honestly.
uhm sweaty?
kinda soulless, but it's better than spending $800 on a crt
soul
>I can't get any of the benefits of a CRT but sure I'll use a filter to give me the negatives!
Pants on head retarded
Doomsday Hunters is another one, just lazy "scanlines" on top of the image. Better than nothing I suppose, but at least their graphics are detailed and the animations are smooth.
Alway soulless, like all filters and shaders forevermore. If you actually cared you'd have gotten a free/$5 CRT. If you don't care you'd just use it and shut up about it.
Games being a pixelated mess without a filter doesn't feel like a good thing either.
