>They're already at 82, 89 counting echoes
>Even if several get cut they can easily make up the difference with in-house inclusions, even more so if echoes count
>"Everyone Is Here" is a) almost guaranteed not to happen again and b) has lessened marketing potential even if it does 'cause it happened once already.
>But 100 characters is a number that will turn heads regardless of how many cuts the roster gets
inb4 "they will slash the roster and make up for it in single player content". No they will not. Leave your feelings at the door and look at the facts. Ultimate went all out on adding characters and was rewarded with sales far surpassing its predecessors. You don't see that then regress to the model that gave you a fraction of said profit.
"100+ Characters!" will absolutely be the hook of the next Smash
If they do make it, it will basically just be Ultimate Deluxe, and I'm not really sure Sakurai is into that.
Ultimate newfags are gonna hate Smash 6 going back to the style 64/Melee and Brawl were in
We're gonna see the first Smash game since 2008 not held back by a gimmick like two versions or "everyone is here"
Ultimate only happened as it was a reskin of Smash U and Sakurai had ample shit to straight-up reuse.
The only way you're getting 100+ characters is if they pull a MK8D and the next Nintendo console's Smash is Ultimate Deluxe like the user above me said.
But even that causes issues, as it's not as simple as MK8, Pikmin or 3D World. Nintendo has to reach agreements and pay for the licensing on all of their third party characters again include Square and Disney.
You say this but Ultimate in itself is basically Wii U Deluxe already, at least far as the roster goes. Not to downplay the effort of Everyone Is Here, but if you count Wii U's DLC, the amount of characters they revived was minimal.
>Young Link
>Pichu
>Wolf
>Snake
>Pokémon Trainer's Squirtle and Ivysaur
I'm legitimately curious if you can put forward an argument as to why they'd do that. Nintendo saw Zelda selling better than ever before and they didn't go back to OoT, instead they're making a BOTW2.
They literally said having so many characters was a mistake and almost impossible to develop. They already confirmed the next one will have a smaller roster
Are you really trying to claim open world is a gimmick? Especially on the same level as making two versions of a game or bringing back everyone in typical fighting game special release fashion
I hope Smash 6 has some gameplay that encourages less defensive play than Ultimate, and good single player content like Melee and Brawl. I'd also love to see Smash Run make a return with more maps.
My argument isn't that the 100 characters will include absolutely everyone in Ultimate again, but rather that they're so close to that golden marketing number that even if they slash several off the third parties they can reach the number with in-house inclusions, more so if echoes/clone characters are fair game in the count.
What Sakurai said is that Everyone Is Here is unlikely to happen ever again. Nowhere did he say the roster would be smaller. Even then Sakurai has a history of underpromising and overdelivering. It was the same history with previous Smash games.
The word "gimmick" didn't appear on this thread until you typed it, user, that didn't come from me. No, I don't think open world is a gimmick. What I was getting at is that Nintendo will pay attention to the direction taken in entries that are far outselling previous installments in their franchises. If BOTW going open world is giving them mountains of gold is very understandable they're gonna give that another shot. Same here, Ultimate is dwarfing past Smash sales by a ridiculous amount, and what's Ultimate's defining characteristic? The size of its roster.
Smash Run was too good to be stuck on the 3DS.
>was a mistake

Meh, I'm expecting a moveset/visuals overhaul with fewer characters by far.
Sakurai probably wont be director for the next one I bet.
there will never be another smash game
the next Smash roster will just be 100 Fire Emblem characters
I think Ultimate kind of already has too many characters
Why would many characters be an issue? My problem is with the weak gameplay.
Do you have a source on that?
Source?
A source. I need a source.
Sorry, I mean I need a source that explicitly states your argument. This is just tangential to the discussion.
No, you can't make inferences and observations from the sources you've gathered. Any additional comments from you MUST be a subset of the information from the sources you've gathered.
You can't make normative statements from empirical evidence.
Do you have a degree in that field?
A college degree? In that field?
Then your arguments are invalid.
No, it doesn't matter how close those data points are correlated. Correlation does not equal causation.
Correlation does not equal causation.
CORRELATION. DOES. NOT. EQUAL. CAUSATION.
Time was spent away from the gameplay to develop the characters.
Also the game is just harder to play than any other smash game and not in a fun way because something as simple as knowing what percent things kill at is a important and you need to remember what each character does to do well in it because you can run into a character that you literally haven't seen for the entire year. I can go through every character I've played against last year and there'll be like one Ryu and I'd lost partially because I forgot Ryu was even in this game.
The problem is there are too many third party companies, so they'd have to pair down a lot. Ultimate could work since it came out so close to Smash U where they were planning it while making the DLC for Sm,ash U and a lot of them were DLC for Ultimate. It's at the point that its unfeasible. Nintendo may also opt for fewer or no third party characters as they make the game impossible to port to new systems. Mario Kart 8 is the best selling Mario Kart, so they are probably kicking themselves that they can't do it with Ultimate.
I don’t really care about Ultimate’s huge roster and al the only thing I liked was the general gameplay and Vs. mode. ULTIMATE’s single player is probably the worst of any smash game and so inferior to Melee which almost perfected it. The next game has the potential to be Melee 2.0 and that is the direction they should take. Have a classic mode that is truly classic (random stages, not pre-determined) and an adventure mode with no micro management like stickers and spirits
