People think they hate escort missions but one of the best games ever is 100% escort mission.

Escorting in this game works well but only because it's quite easy. It's like Shadow of the Colossus, it's all OK until you start doing Boss Rush that forces you to be precise, and you start noticing how horrible the physics and controls are.
Fun fact: when I finished ICO for the first time I didn't even realize that the ending song was sung in English...
80% escort mission. Ico is on his own towards the end
>muh box art
reminder that you should hate the NA version because it is literally an unfinished beta that some retard thought would be a huge Christmas hit and rushed it out for the holiday before it, and its hand painted boxart, was complete.
Flying game escort missions are fun and arguably more stressing. I miss rogue squadron
All of people don't design their game around those mechanics
>Flying game escort missions
nah man, flying game
>protect locations X Y and Z
missions are the fucking worst. at least escort missions don't require you to leave your charge unattended while you go deal with another one.
>3D platformer/puzzle game with escort elements
>fixed camera
>combines realism and subtle fantasy
>only 3 characters once gameplay starts
>only 1 enemy type
>isolated and abandoned setting
>charming fairytale story
>timeless art direction
>barely any dialogue or music
>no HUD, load times symbols or any gaming staples on-screen
>japanese character designs
truly one of the best
i would also add that short length and control scheme are perfect, and so is the ending (playable section after credits was genius)
Clearly Team Ico stole that idea from Death Stranding
way more charming than Shadow of the Colossus. Ueda was younger and never made a game before, so he hasn't revealed his existence to the gaming industry yet
gotta love how well games like Ico and Silent Hill turned out despite Fumito Ueda and Keiichiro Toyama being newcomers. Sometimes brillance can be achieved on the first try
I agree, resident evil 4 is kino
>tfw you're the one being escorted
>the island bathes in the sun's bright rays
>distant hills wear a shroud of grey
>a lonely breeze whispers in the trees
>sole witness to history
>fleeting memories rise
>from the shadows of my mind
>sing "nonomori" - endless corridors
>say "nonomori" - hopeless warriors
>you were there
>you were there
>am I forever dreaming
>how to define the way I'm feeling
>you were there
>countless visions they haunt me in my sleep
>you were there
>though forgotten all promises we keep
>slaves to our destiny
>i recall a melody
>sing "nonomori" - seasons lit with gold
>say "nonomori" - legends yet untold
>you were there
>you were there
>happiness follows sorrow
>only believing in tomorrow
>you were there
>countless visions they haunt me in my sleep
>you were there
>though forgotten all promises we keep
>the island bathes in the sun's bright rays
>distant hills wear a shroud of grey
>a lonely breeze whispers in the trees
>sole key to this mystery
How does it stack up compared to Ico and SotC?
I just played it for the first time. It's incredible. Granted, I'm incredibly biased, because I used to work with animals. A lot of people seem to get annoyed with the game because Trico is "hard to control" or "doesn't listen"--but he's a big-ass wild gryphon thing, why would he? I did get a bit miffed on a few occasions, but if you just take it as it comes and enjoy all the little touches they put into the game (the animations are a true achievement), I think it stands up there with Shadow. I think I like it more than, actually. The jank is a part of its character, and gives Trico some more character as a big, stubborn beast.
I can't comment on Ico unfortunately. I somehow have never played it, despite SotC and now Guardian being two of my favorite games.
Awesome, Ico and Shadow are two of my favorite games of all time, I'll def be checking it out. I can't strongly enough recommend you get your hands on Ico.
Ico wasn't that good
anyone else like the combat of Ico? Beating creatures made of smoke with a wooden stick is satisfying
Incredibly. I felt uber powerful when I got the sword after all that time with the board.
Feels more cinematic and less video game than Ico and SotC. Still good.
The controls and framerate feel like absolute SHIT on base PS4.
>boy with horns
>princess capable of magically opening idol doors or making platforms materialize
>smoke creatures that spawn from portals on the floor
>evil queen with several powers (teleportation, magic shield around her, shockwave that petrifies)
>castle with a bit of magic on it, like the mechanism used to open the gate via those reflectors
>magic sword capable of opening idol doors and destroying smoke creatures
i like the fantasy elements of Ico
