How is it clunky?

>install Tfix
>play around with the keybinds for 5 minutes
All I had to do. If you are too dumb for this play something else.

watch them say this combat is fire

It's a game where you steal stuff, would probably be pretty annoying clearing a level with guards constantly chasing you. Been a long time since I've played it, but I think if they have noticed you, you can't knock them out anymore, and you're not permitted to kill people on the hardest difficulty

Thank god for that.

You could always install Fortnite. There's always a new CoD coming out too.

Thief Gold was fine I felt. I honestly thought it played better than a lot of games released in that time.

Now pic related on the other hand, is the epitome of clunkiness. Even the sneaky patch can't completely save it.

You know they made it Thief game for people like you. It's called Thief 4

MUH CLUNKY

The version of Thief Gold I had didn't have working cutscenes
Imagine my confusion when I got to Constantine's Mansion

It's a 1998 game and yes back then it was ludo of the highest order

Fucking SAME. Had no idea there even were cutscenes until I finished the game and watched a speedrun.

>main focus of the game is sneaking
>no reason to bother when the guards pose no threat whatsoever

I skip the Gold missions every time I replay it.

Something to do with needing an actual CD to play the cutscenes that a lot of old PC games did and publishers being too lazy to fix them. Easy to fix with a fan patch.

I mean, good luck doing objectives with with half the guards on the map on your ass, especially the ones that shoot you. I know you can bunnyhop at lightspeed in Thief 1 and not give a fuck, but it's an immersive sim. You're going to have more fun if you try to play it as a stealth game.

Video size was almost as big (if not bigger) than the full game back then so putting in as part of the install was just asking for too much. Much easier and better for user storage space to keep the cutscenes on disc and just call for them whenever the need arises.

I had a similar experience the first time I tried thief, I also noticed the pause screen taking forever to come up. you're missing a patch that makes it work properly on modern systems.

Why play anything ever? All games have some kind of cheese.

I know this is a heretical opinion, but if you're a newcomer to the series and not really used to graphics like that, I wouldn't bother with any of the original missions. They are simply too archaic. The levels lack detail and consist mostly of huge empty rooms with very basic geometry and practically no detail. Thief 2 is a little better in this regard. the originals have been completely surpassed by the fans. Go download some of the more popular FMs like Pilgrim's Feast, Endless Rain, The Ciner Notes, Alcazar, or Death's Cold Embrace. if you find yourself having a good time with them and really want to explore the franchise further, THEN go play the originals. I feel like a lot of people try the originals, get scared away, and never even get a chance to try out all the awesome content the community has made over the years.
