Why didn't Puffy AmiYumi take off?

>had a decent premiere slot, overexposed promotion, daily reruns, video games and merchandising
>they even got the real life Puffy AmiYumi to appear on a parade float modeled after the show for Macy's 2005 Thanksgiving Day Parade
>had episodes with Mario and Sonic sound effects
>suddenly got canned in 2006 and was quickly forgotten by everyone
What happened?

I really like the band, the album "Puffy." is peak comfy.

>name is literaly puffy

>never show their panties to prove they are in fact puffy

They basically floated off of having sexy voices and singing the Teen Titans theme song, but kids dropped it like a hot potato once they saw the girls were geriatrics.

I was a kid when this show aired, and at the time I just thought it was lame compared to shows like Billy and Mandy. I think this show would be way more popular if it aired today.

It was the worst era of CN.

How did this even happen anyway, its not like they were some super iconic band in japan. It was so random, yeah lets give this one japanese pop group an american western.

Executive meddling
>executive Sam Register heard one of their songs on the radio one day. He called their manager and worked out a deal for them to do the theme song for Teen Titans and later made a show about them.

Fuck you, Megas XLR and the original Ben 10 were dope af. Foster's and Puffy were fun too, and I'd even take the "bad" shows over the fucking CalArts Era.

are the games any good

It was a parody of something people did not understand.

Camp Lazlo and Foster Homes were great. I would even say My Gym Partner is a Monkey was decent. Never got into Ben 10

Camp Lazlo is Calarts

The DS game is fucking garbage so I can only believe the GBA one is marginally better.

even with my spotty access to CN at the time I don't recall ever seeing Class of 3000.

ugly cardboard cutout artstyle

i was so disappointed to figure out they didnt look that at all IRL!!

That Super Happy Funtime aesthetic of Japan doesn't really translate too well into western animation, not to mention like with China, pop culture interest in Japan sort of died out has been replaced by the next Asian craze: K-Pop.

How did we go from THIS...

I saw it a few times during a summer. It definitely existed.

You're not allowed to have fun or show any measure of violence anymore. Everything has to be neutered, safe and educational.

Could you have imagined 30 years ago that kids in the future would grow up entirely uninterested in toys and cartoons? These days, most kids almost exclusively watch streamers and let's players.
