Could other IPs inspire 5 unique movesets and 3 derivates?

why do they keep adding sword users when there's a very popular spear and axe lord since like 2005?

Robin mainly uses magic and is the only FE character with weapon durability and Ike performs heavy slashes compared to Marth's fast stabs

Pokemon and Mario surpass FE's representation. Each has more unique fighters already.
Zelda, Kirby, and Final Fantasy could potentially match FE's representation. They each have something going against them though.

FE's situation is also bolstered by the fact that so many of its characters CAN be interchangeable as far as moves go. Marth, Roy, Lucina, and Chrom all play the same in Smash because they all play effectively the same in their home series. Any FE character wielding a sword is largely interchangeable with any other FE sword-user. Characters in FE are samey because every game has a whole new cast, too, so the games often used visual shorthand to cement roles and functions. Why are so many FE main characters blue-haired, blue-armoured swordsmen? Because Marth typified the hero leader role, and in the earlier games blue was the good guy colour.

Blame the fact that 90% of the main characters in each game use swords and the rest came out at unfortunate times to be included.

None of that is what goes into Sakurai's thinking of why he hasn't added an actual new Zelda rep since 2001 or why he keeps showering FE with praise and you know it. FE is just an easy factory for lazy junkfood ungabunga bonkgoblin swordies.

It's not that impressive of a feat. Besides the obvious answers in Mario and Pokémon, series like Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Kirby, Zelda, and even the Miis if you count those could do it.

An axe is pretty much a heavy sword (you could give Ike an axe for example and keep the same moveset). Besides, Eliwood's horse alone makes him more unique, and even if he didn't get that, he'd play differently from the likes of Marth because Durandal's a broadsword like Cloud's.

Lyn might be able to be relatively unique as a swordwielder from being a "speedster" and having a katana rather than a rapier, and IS is pushing her as a bow-user anyways.

Sakurai is actually a turbo FE fanboy. Just read his interviews where he talks about game development and how inspired by FE he was, or his interview with Intelligent Systems when he took over an Iwata Asks session. Heck, just the fact that he hijacked an Iwata Asks interview to begin with should tell you all you need to know.

why couldn't they just leave it at Marth and Ike and call it a day.

why is sakurai more interested in FE than his own series kirby? why not add marx and knucle joe?
