>game has a ancient civilization that were vastly ahead in technology but they somehow all mysteriously vanished a long time ago and all that remains of them are ancient advanced artifacts and ruins.
Game has a ancient civilization that were vastly ahead in technology but they somehow all mysteriously vanished a long...
Its just an excuse to have some fun technology and mechanics that wouldn't fit the setting otherwise, have sex.
This has only worked in Stargate
Doesnt this trope come from early medieval times when they looked at old roman infrastructure and they had no idea what most of the shit was ever for let alone be able to replicate and build it because the technology was lost?
What about elder scrolls? or Breath of the wild? Or Mass Effect?
>game is about how the church is ackshually LE EBIL
It happened in real life more than once so it's not that strange.

Partially, and also from stories like Atlantis and from mythologies with concepts similar to the gold/silver/bronze age idea. And if you take the Graham Hancock pill, it's people remembering the previous global civilization.
mass defect
>people remembering the previous global civilization

Basically the generally accepted start of civilization is way off this has already been proven by Gobekli Tepe and there was once some kind of fairly high tech civilization that had colonies around the globe including the Americas. Explains things like the pyramids, the strange coincidence of European myths existing in pre-contact America, the prevalence of the flood myth, etc. A little over 12,000 years ago there was a major global disaster which caused an ice cap meltdown and caused flooding and earthquakes all over the place and wiped it out.
wouldnt they find more advanced shit in the ground than stonehead arrows and primitive tools and cavepaintings that were over 12.000 years old?
They have. Gobekli Tepe is one of them. The Sphinx is another, but Egyptologists seethe to no end when you start asking about that. Erosion around the Sphinx enclosure has heavy rain erosion, and radar has found a chamber underneath one of its paws that Egypt refuses to let anyone near.
Halo did it well until the started telling us too much
killing the mystery and ambiguity is a pitfall most games fall into. It always ends disappointing.
And yet, the Main Character never gets to use any of that Ancient Advanced Technology like Guns or Mecha, but instead has yet another Sword.
but its all cool and glowy
Don't play Kenshi
no it didnt
so real life and Ancient Greek
>bronze age collapse never happened
>Egyptian mummies don't have cocaine in them
>Rome never fell
I'm gonna tell you to cope
MAKE AN ESCAFLOWNE GAME GOD DAMMIT
lol
Not in the sci-fi sense but of course it did. Civilizations fall and someone else will pick up the pieces, like the Islamic golden age. Hard to imagine they were the pinnacle of science but after Rome it was slim pickings
