3&K levels are unfun garbage. Too many WOAH LOOK AT SONIC GO FAST moments and the levels themselves are a slog to play through. Theres a reason why the presentation and soundtrack are all this game has going for it.

Absolutely cannot stand &Knuckles, I actually got up halfway through Sandopolis and just turned my console off. No game over, I was just done. CD might've been comparable to 1 for me but it catastrophically shits itself at Wacky Workbench. All of the games have their valleys but goddamn, that stage fucking SUCKS.

because there are, there are so many moments in 3 and (even more in Knuckles) where the game shows you how good it looks and it gets annoying. Especially in Death Egg Zone. Sonic 2 does pacing with its platforming way better than Sonic 3 does it. Sonic 3 will totally change into super platforming mode randomly and youll spend like 2 minutes doing shitty platforming when in Sonic 2 it would only take like a fraction of that time. I liked some of the stages you mentioned (Casino Night, Oil Ocean) but I can definitely see after replaying why people hate the last couple of levels so much. Not as good as the beginning of the game but I do like Sky Chase even when its essentially doing nothing.
