The Capcom Five fiasco should have really been telling of how fucked the console was.
The one positive you can say is that it was such a fuck up Nintendo and their subdivisions had to do double duty on making their games good because name recognition wouldn't be enough and they were fighting tooth and nail to keep up. Compare that to the Switch where it's such a massive success that it feels like Nintendo stopped giving a shit about making good content about halfway it's current age cause they know they already won so they don't even have to try anymore.

So yeah, thank you Gamecube. You were such a blunder, you forced Nintendo to actually care.

My family was cheap though and the only thing I got were Sonic games. Despite having a Gamecube my only exposure of Mario for years would be Super Mario Advance on the Gameboy Advance which I'd replay honest to god hundred of times because I only had that and Lion King 1/2. Nothing else.

My family would only got me 2 games a year and the Gamecube they got me was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle so I knew what Sonic was I stuck with it. I don't even like SA2 all that much replaying as an adult now.
On another note: My family also had a PS1 and the only games it had were Tomb Raider games. Back when there was one every year.

I had six PS1 games, 5 of them were Tomb Raider and the sixth was Tigger's Honey Adventure.
