No, he didn't. Several months before Soken got diagnosed, Yoshida's best friend died of cancer and he was absolutely terrified his other friend was going to get it as well. Soken had a reputation for the last ten years of smoking and drinking backstage at Live Letter announcements infamously. So it was completely realistic something could obviously happen to him some day sadly.
Yoshida even gave his late friend a Nu Gundam model Gunpla kit because it was the basis for the Sage job they launched with Endwalker. They are 1000% sincere about what they do and Yoshida's crocodile tears aren't any parlor trick, he had to turn around on stage because its poor business form to show weakness or out of character performance in Japanese business.
