Back in the day we had dozens cult classics/genre defining games every year. Now it's maybe once a year or every couple years that a good game comes out.
Back in the day we had dozens cult classics/genre defining games every year...
Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
Because everything's already been done. The only advancements left are graphical and featurerichness, both of which are just slapping shit on top of other shit and tricking normies into thinking it's new.
>featurerichness
It's fucking cancer. Everyone tries to slap everything from every other game into their games, see crafting, base building, xp points, upgrades etc. Next doom will have base building or some shit. Why can't a shooter be just a simple shooter? That's why Doom3 is still a better Doom than the nu-dooms. Doom is just supposed to be the player, the guns and the level/enemies, without points to upgrade your weapons or armor which puts you into the menu breaking game flow. The PDAs in Doom3 were already pushing it.
>we had dozens cult classics/genre defining games
It was more like we had a lot of unique games.
Riddick, farcry and masquerade are far from 10/10 but they were fun.
I miss old mediocre games.
pretty much
Resident evil 4 remake part 2 VR
One of the biggest cancers is "open world"
Yes a lot of things just live on nostalgia, nothing new. Same with movies.
the sims was never good and doom 3 was shit but everything else in there is kino except for need for sneed
I know it's german for 'The' but I laughed when I read 'Die Sims 2'
Doom 3 is great, the only reason why faggots back then lost their shit is because of the shift in theme the game took where once it was le faggy shooty demons game it became primarily an atmospheric horror FPS.
Blame games as a service. Why bother risking making a brand new game when you can add skins to an existing one and make more money?
DIE SIMS SCUM
It's been there done that. Genuinely it's only zoomers that go crazy for new games because they haven't played shit and avoid old games. I think a problem is that unlike books, movies, and music, video games just advanced so fucking fast since the 70s. Video games were such leaps ahead of other entertainment that they are responsible for the better graphics cards and processing of today and how even movie studios adopted computer graphics. Plus something like a modern Sony and Microsoft console are just so generic that they only come out with generic games. There's nothing unique about them that would allow a developer to try new things. And worst of all publishers and developers realized they could just kick back and survive on games that have micro transactions or subscription fees so there's no need to make a new game.
turning doom into an atmospheric horror game was the most retarded decision of all time
if it's not fast paced run and gun key hunting gameplay with guns out the ass and demons also out the ass and metal blaring in your ears it's not really DOOM
fucking ETERNAL was more DOOM than 3 was.
3 is an abomination.
In Doom3 you do run and use a gun? Doom was never spastically jump around, shoot and do "glory kills"/quick time events while also fumble round the menu for weapon ugrades totally disrupting the game.
Doom 3 is much more like original Doom than nu-dooms, mostly a pure fps shooter without dumb shit added to it.
Also original Doom was never an arena shooter/wave shooter where you fight off enemies in an arena/room and wait for something to happen opening up the path to the next arena-room
they exist, but no one talks about them because they're not """ENGAGING""" enough for zoomers.
Real reason that nobody talks about: The average skill level of western concept artists and illustrators has gone down the drain. There’s nobody left who can bring imaginary concepts to life in expressive ways.
inclined to agree considering this is what modern concept artists are
