Do you ~really~ believe that? What is appealing about a short fat plumber?
Kirby
is sly a mascot? or just furry? always liked his design
Sonic
The series is pretty much hardcarried by his design
>mascot
>a person or thing that is supposed to bring good luck or that is used to symbolize a particular event or organization.
See the problem is that 'mascot' has a bit of a broad definition. Which characters actually count? Pretty much any distinct video game protagonist is technically a mascot according to the dictionary. Do you mean specifically characters created as part of the "mascot with attitude" trend? This is kind of a complex issue.
Its a linguistic quirk, but I think everyone understands what people mean by mascot, Laura Croft isn't the same thing as Crash Bandicoot
Without gameplay considerations
1. Gex (American, British Gex is way lower)
2. Spyro
3. Rayman
4. Blinx the Timecat
5. Balan
6. Sonic
7. Aero the Acrobat
8. Crash Bandicoot
9. Sly
10. Ratchet
So yeah, specifically Sonic knockoffs. Okay.
Mascots existed before Sonic, he just made them popular.
I like Sonic and Crash. Both made to dethrone the king, and all things considered they did a good job.

Pac-Man.
Bubsy
Holy fuck you have bad taste.
You're like that annoying snot nosed kid cousin who only had shit like James Pond and driv3r
The penis nose ruins the classic design.
Nah he needs the penis nose, it ties his face together and gives him some masculinity. That's why Ms. Pac-Man's stubbier nose is cute in relation to Pac-Man's.
Yoshi is objectively a perfectly designed character
Sonic. No matter how many times the series fucks up, his design still carries its relevancy.
Diddy Kong
he fat
He's perfectly designed how he is
Simple yet stylish. Sparkster is similar, and my runner-up.
