Let's have a sci-fi/fantasy games thread because it's the best genre fusion that exists. Or if you just want to talk about Phantasy Star that's fine too.

You mean like The Elder Scrolls or like Star wars... ?

The only Phantasy Star I played was 0 on the DS. Are any of the others good? Other than the Endless and GalCiv games, any other good space fantasy vidya?

Phantasy Star is a fucking horrendous franchise and only kept getting worse until IV. That one game is good. The rest are shit.

Just listen to this shit:

Although I do like the idea of the solar system being a central character in the series. Despite PS1 having no story, you learn about the places and then seeing them change over the course of the games is neat.

old science fantasy art is some nonsensical combination of retro futurism and classic fantasy. i love it.

The illustrations in Outlaw Star's ending credits are done in that style too. I always liked them more than the show itself.

OP is mostly referring to the original Phantasy Star games on the Geneses which are almost completely different from the Online series(called Phantasy Star Online, duh) other than taking place in the same universe but way way off timeline. The original Phantasy Star games were turn base and had that kind of atmosphere in OP's pic. The Online series is sort of like Star Track in terms of atmosphere. They're 2 completely different beast basically.

As for your question the Online games are really good, Zero on the DS is like a small sample of what the main Phantasy Star Online games offer. Someone else could tell you how to get into Online episode 1&2.

Earlier games had spaceships and blasters, later games sort of retconned that away and went full fantasy.

No wonder Ultima is overrated.

does elden ring count?

I like how your entire party is almost guaranteed to be made up of clones by the end of Phantasy Star 2.

I want to make a space fantasy game.
