Just finished FFVI. What a great game.
Final Fantasy
It's weird how the magitek armor in the game looks nothing like the concept art.
If I beat FF13 I'll have beaten every mainline FF at least once. But I want to play more FF6 and 11
One day I want to check out XIII and see if all the bitching is actually warranted, or just hivemind bullshit.
>and see if all the bitching is actually warranted
It is
That's for me to decide, mate.
That's pretty standard for Final Fantasy. Here's your Amano chocobo.
The combat is good enough once it opens up and you dive deep into it but basically every single other RPG aspect is very subpar compared to any other FF.
I don't get all this gold-jeweled shit amano used for bartz in his concept art. Did they not tell him he was just some adventurer traveler type guy?
It looks cool.
My major takeaway from VI is that the characters are really cool and interesting, but I wish more was done with them. There's a fair amount to these people, but it's not really delved into that deeply. I still really like them though.
Also, it's hilarious the ways this game can be broken in half. All three of the ladies especially since they're the magic users.
Pffft!
>Here, we need you to draw this fluffy chicken.
>MAJESTIC BIRD FROM HEAVEN ITSELF!!!
Does Stranger of Paradise share the same exact engine as Nioh 1 / 2 or am I going crazy here?
It's not an unplayable mess, but it isn't great.
I can acknowledge there are some interesting ideas introduced both in the gameplay (the paradigm system is pretty neat, and the pseudo-real time elements - juggling enemies for example - are also cool if underutilized) as well as the story (the self-referential ideas of questioning whether or not being 'the chosen ones' is actually a good thing, what kind of impact that has on the people around you like family and loved ones). However, I think the gameplay becomes stagnant pretty early on, especially since the way the game is structured you don't actually have access to the full party for several dozen hours and even once you do have every character the game essentially devolves into just juggling the enemy as quickly as possible; there isn't very much depth in that regard even if the paradigm system is interesting in theory. Similarly, while the story has some interesting elements the narrative direction is incredibly weak. The way the characters get split up so frequently especially early on drives the pacing to a halt, and the story jumps back and forth frequently in a very disjointing way that makes you question whether or not the non-linear aspects even benefited the story.
Yes, the game very much is narrow hallways for the first 16-20 hours or so, but that isn't necessarily as big of a complaint as some people make it out to be; after all, FFX was structured pretty much the same way, and it didn't even have the "open world" map that FFXIII eventually has. Nonetheless, it still feels very restrictive especially coming off of FFXII which gave you a lot more freedom to explore.
glad you enjoyed 6, user. I recently played through 7 for the second time. I enjoyed it more than my previous run but it's still not my favorite in the series.
I'm thinking of playing through 8 or 9 again, but I'm busy with Xeno 3 and have a bunch of other games in my backlog too.
here's my advice for 13: if you get bored of the cutscenes, just skip them and read what you missed in the Datalog.
combat has a lot of tricks you might not figure out on your own. if you start struggling later in the game, there's no shame in checking out a combat guide to learn some of those tricks.
I’m extremely burnt out on this game and I’m just before the world of ruin I think. 26 yr old boomer that has never played a 2D FF. Feel bad about being filtered I guess
FFVI isn't a waifu game like "modern" FF games you stupid zoomer.
you can max everyone out in the end with all stats pretty much making everyone a magic user with the espers.
Your literal schizo rambling is lost on me sadly.
Yeah it got me when I first played it too. Never got around to the GBA superbosses.
I was surprised at how well it avoided having a central character, which I know was the intent. The earlier party members were obviously more important for having the most screen time, but I was waiting for someone to take charge of the story and despite Celes' later highlights it never really happened.
Don't care, didn't ask.
Case and point. I might complain if this wasn't a single player title. Could you imagine if you could pull stupid shit like Tranced Dualcast in XIV? Fuckin' hell.
