If this was such an amazing controller design why didn't anyone try to copy it and why didn't it ever appear again in further generations of nintendo consoles?

Its amazing for what it represents rather than for how it works, which of course has been surpassed tenfold as soon as playstation released the dualshock.

It was a serious bet from nintendo to make 3D gaming the standard without renouncing to having a more traditional option if it did not take off. This compromise gave it a weird shape and not really optimal as far as amount of buttons and access to different inputs. Not to mention the joystick itself did not have the best build for duration.

But in its favour, the design is rather unique and ergonomic, there were plenty of colors to choose from and the slot behind the controller allowed for fun gimmicks.

Its just a memorable experiment that kickstarted the 3D gaming and kept an open mind if what a controller should be.

The dreamcast controller would be a spiritual successor.

it was a piece of fucking shit
who the hell is telling you this thing is 'amazing controller design'? It's the WOAT if you take into account its relative popularity and having to use it to play good games

amazing controller design

It was a piece of shit

>The dreamcast controller would be a spiritual successor.
But the DC controller was based on the Saturn's 3D pad, zoomer.

>N64 controller
>amazing
I've never seen those words in the same sentence. As far as Nintendo ones go, it's the GC's that always gets all the praise, with the Wii U Pro's coming at a distant second.

Im talking about the memory slot on the controller being very much in line with the one on the n64 controller, shitposter-kun.

The geometry was based off the joystick controller for the saturn, yes. Also im probably older than you.

It was ahead of it's time and it's time hasn't come yet.

I was once friends with benefits with a girl whose chin looked like the bottom of this thing.

the gamecube controller is a piece of shit too. it's only good for smash

Nigga every modern console has joysticks, what are you talking about?

Nintendo didn't invent joysticks

The n64 controller was the first analog controller, cope.

Too much ahead of it's time. So much we still haven't caught up to it.

But that is objectively incorrect

>real N64 controllers have never been tried
think i've heard this one before

user I loved the N64 but it was good for its games not the controller. The original DualShock was better in every possible way.

>Its amazing for what it represents rather than for how it works
Nintendo have been coasting along on this cope ever since the N64
>Mario 64 is an unfinished demo but think of the potential
>Wii is unresponsive gimmicky wagglan shit but think of the potential
>BotW is a sparse demo but think of the potential
>Switch is basically unplayable with how underpowered it is but think of the potential
>etc

How about they make some good fucking products for a change?

>it was good for its games
All six of them

Like anything from that era, nintendo fanboys were... basically desperate to praise everything touched by nintendo. If you check magazines from that time you will notice the "cartridges are better because no loading times!" and, of course, "the n64 controller is more flexible". Same with the gamecube: "It's actually more powerful than the PS2!" and "the controller is more intuitive, buttons being different allows you to push the button without looking!". Nintendo fans being nintendo fans.
